April 2 - global impact of fake news
About this class
Over the past years, "fake news" has become a global epidemic, causing widespread election mayhem, an increase in hate speech and racist action, and even imprisonment and murder.
The international student forum "The Global Impact of Fake News" (Tuesday April 2, 10 am - 12 pm) looks at the particular effects of fake news in Canada, India and Colombia by examining what form fake news takes, the propagators and their motives, the impact it is having and the steps being taken to counteract it.
It is hoped that, by hearing voices from regions where fake news has had, or continues to have, a marked influence, students will gain international insight into the virulence and impact of the "fake news" scourge.
